51st ANNUAL GMA Dove Awards Balloting Schedule 2020
Eligibility Period: May 1, 2019 – April 30, 2020
February 28, 2020 Dove Registered Entity Application Cut-Off Deadline for organizations to apply for Dove Registered Entity (DRE) status for 2020 Dove Awards. Applications after this date will not be processed. GMA will notify all applicants of their status by March 31.
April 7, 2020 Dove Registered Entity Submission Active Approved Dove Registered Entities can begin submitting releases and recordings for consideration for 2020 Dove Awards.
April 21, 2020 Dove Registered Entity Entries Due Deadline for approved Dove Registered Entities to submit releases and recordings for consideration for the 2020 Dove Awards. DRE Submissions are due by 11:59 pm CST on this date.
April 24, 2020 Membership Cut-Off for Submitting Entries *Not an approved Dove Registered Entity with the GMA? In order to be eligible to submit releases and recordings for consideration for the 2020 Dove Awards, you must be a professional member of the GMA by this date.
May 12, 2020 Professional Member Submission Process Active Opportunity for professional members of the GMA to submit entries for consideration for the 2020 Dove Awards.
May 19, 2020 Professional Member Entries Due Professional members entries are due by this date. Submission opportunity will close at 11:59 pm CST.
June 2, 2020 Dove Registered Entity Verification Active Listings of all submissions received will be posted for review to make sure all eligible recordings and releases are included.
June 9, 2020 Dove Registered Entity Verification Due Any changes or submissions by Dove Registered Entities are due by 11:59pm CST on this date.
June 12, 2020 Product Deadline Physical product for all submissions must be at the GMA office by this date.
July 10, 2020 Membership Cut-Off for Voting on First Ballot In order to be eligible to vote on the first Dove Awards ballot, you must be an active professional member in the GMA database by this date. The first ballot determines nominees.
July 14, 2020 Product Screening GMA appointed committees meet to review products, approve category placement, and eligibility of all submissions made, plus add glaring omissions. All approved releases and recordings will appear in their appropriate categories on the first ballot. (Submissions can be moved among genre categories or removed from eligibility.)
July 21, 2020 First Ballot Open First Dove Awards ballot is delivered to current GMA professional members for voting via email. All voting takes place online.
July 28, 2020 First Ballot Closes All votes must be cast by 11:59 PM CST on this date in order to be counted.
August 5, 2020 Nominees Announced at Press Conference Press Conference to announce the 2019 Dove Award nominees, as determined by the first ballot. To be held at Lipscomb University.
August 7, 2020 Membership Cut-Off for Voting on Second Ballot In order to be eligible to vote on the second Dove Awards ballot, you must be an active member in the GMA database by this date. The second ballot determines the recipients of the Dove Awards.
August 18, 2020 Second Ballot Open Second Dove Awards ballot is delivered to current GMA members for voting. All voting takes place on-line.
August 25, 2020 Second Ballot Closes All votes must be cast by 11:59 PM CST on this date in order to be counted.
October 20, 2020 51st Annual GMA Dove Awards Presentation of the 51st Annual Dove Awards from Allen Arena at Lipscomb University.
ALL DATES AND TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE
Eligibility Period: May 1, 2019 – April 30, 2020
A project, song or artist may be entered in to the GMA Dove Awards submission process by either one of two methods:
(1) An approved Dove Registered Entity must submit that project or song (information on the Application Process for Dove Registered Entities can be found here).
(2) A total of no less than three eligible Professional Members must submit that artist, project, or song into the same category for consideration.
Dove Registered Entities may submit in all categories except SONG, SONGWRITER, ARTIST (CONTEMPORARY, SOUTHERN GOSPEL & GOSPEL), ARTIST, NEW ARTIST. If an employee of an approved Dove Registered Entity desires to submit individually, he/she must be an active Professional Member by the Membership cut off date.
In addition, depending on the category, there are further qualifications such has:
Albums: Must be comprised of no less than FIVE songs AND must have first week sales tracked by either Christian Sound Scan or General Market Sound Scan from the first day of May to the last day of April preceding the Dove Awards year. (Example, for a Dove Awards Event in October 2020, eligibility period is May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020).
Recorded Songs: Must be included on a qualified Album (see above) or must be released to national radio as a single during the same eligibility period.
Only entries that meet all criteria for that respective category will be screened by the GMA Dove Awards Screening Committee and placed in the First Voting Round.
From the First Voting Round, only the top five* per category are considered nominees and will continue on the Final Voting Round which determines the winners. (Some categories will have more than more or less than 5 nominees. See Rules for details.)
We require that one copy of the physical product be sent to the GMA office for all submissions by the ‘Product Deadline’ listed in the schedule above. Professional Members of the GMA vote in all Dove Awards Voting Rounds. If employees of an approved Dove Registered Entity desire to vote, he/she must be an active Professional Member of the GMA by the Membership cut off date. GMA All-Access and Community Members are eligible to vote on the final ballot in five categories of their choosing. You may join the GMA online today at www.gospelmusic.org.

How can I get my artist, song or album considered for a Dove Award?
The Gospel Music Association accepts entries from Professional GMA members and previously approved Dove Registered Entities.

Who can vote for the Dove Awards?
Individual Professional and Lifetime members are eligible to vote on both Dove Awards ballots. All-Access and Community GMA members are eligible to vote for a restricted amount of categories on the second ballot only.
What is the difference between voting and submitting?
Previously approved Dove Registered Entities, and Professional GMA members submit entries for consideration for a GMA Dove Award nomination. GMA members vote on two ballots (which are derived from the submitted entries-see the Policy & Procedures Manual for more details); first to determine the final nominees, and second to determine the GMA Dove Award winners.
How do I register my product with SoundScan?
See www.cmta.com and click the “SoundScan” button, or www.soundscan.com and click the “Register Product with Nielsen SoundScan” button. To be eligible, product can be registered with either Christian SoundScan or mainstream SoundScan.
When does an album have to be released for it to be eligible?
For the 2020 presentation of the Dove Awards, the eligibility period for all award categories shall be beginning on the 1st day of May, 2019 and ending on the 30th day of April, 2020.
How do I perform on the Dove Awards show?
Performances slots, at the Doves, are given to the final ballot nominees. Those nominees will be announced in August during the Press Conference.
